Urchin

Another little concertina fold structure I've been playing around with.
This one is only quite small with a diameter
of around 130mm (5") when open.

  1. I like the way you've incorporated such a simple 'fastening'. I looks so seamless

    1. A bit like me really Jac, seamless & simple - what you see is what you get :)

  2. Oh! I've just "got it." I read urchin as ragazzo, a puny street kid! It's a sea urchin.

    1. I'm the grown up version of ragazzo more likely Dinah :) This form just reminded me of the delicate little bleached casings (sans spikes) we used to find washed up on the beach as children.

  3. Great little book. Is it one piece of paper Rob?How did you discover the fold? Love the urchin name, looks like your cutter is working beautifully.

  4. Thanks Jack, it's 3 pieces of card glued together to make one long piece which I've concertina folded, cut the design out, then sewn along one open edge instead of through the folds as I usually do. I've been standing it on it's side and it looks more sculptural than when sitting flat on it's base. I'm finding lots of ways to utilize concertina folds :)
