Since my order of
Keisuke Saka's (also info here in English) book "Karakuri" arrived
in the post the other day
I have been busily making paper automata
from the templates inside, building up an
understanding of how these things work.

I have long been interested in automata
and this is a great jumping off point for me,
combining paper sculpture and automata
with detailed instructions and templates.

  1. Now that does look interesting, Robyn! I never quite got beyond the rubber-bands-and-cardboard things we made as kids.
    Thank you for the link.

  2. Wow! they look amazing Rob. How cool!

  3. This looks like lots of fun, Robyn - hope you'll show us more.

  4. Thanks Dinah, Amanda & Helen, I think they're lots of fun and I have lots of ideas in my head - now to see if I can make them actually work! I'm sure I shall have lots of fun {and probably frustration } trying :)
