Carved Books

Have been experimenting with book cutting, although I fear it is a very covert occupation for me, being always taught to respect and cherish books (which is what I am doing really, as I don't want to see these books end up on the scrap heap).

I suppose it makes me pause and consider outcomes a little more before I begin, as I ponder long and hard before making the first cut, although it is very hard to plan as the content of the book really dictates the final outcome, with each new page revealing a new direction.

I do like the way, once a bit of stripping away has occured, that the layers are left a little exposed and images and information are revealed without having to digest the pages one by one, unlike the original form of the book when everything is guarded by the cover.

  1. What a lot of beautiful work you are getting done, Rob! I've never been game to cut a book other than my own but am inspired by your efforts. Will let you know how I get on.
