Recently recycled book sculpture

entitled Mabel and Friends.
For me the forms are reminiscent of 50's standard lamps,
my husband says they remind him of dressmakers dummies.

Spectre

 "Spectre"

is one of three altered bookworks I have submitted

for the upcoming Redlands Creative Alliance exhibition 

"Linkages"

at Redland Art Gallery 

(Cnr Bloomfield and Middle Sts Cleveland Qld 4163).

Exhibition opens next Sunday.

Wall "Paper"

Spent part of my day yesterday

"papering" my wall.
As you can see, it's just a small wall
at the end of my hallway, next to the kitchen
(far away enough from grease/grime or steam).

Am very pleased with the result,

might have to try it somewhere else in the house as well
(probably not in a bathroom though!).

"Ex Libris Olim" - End of Show

My exhibition

"Ex Libris Olim"

finishes at the Redland Museum this Wednesday.

I very  sincerely  thank all of the lovely

people who have been so generous in their support 

and praise for this little endeavour of mine.

Some of the books will be winging their way to the

Foyer at Sheldon College for a little while now.

As you will probably have noticed by my blog posts

I have had a bit of a hiatus from altered books over

the last month or so.

I think the intensity of getting this exhibition

plumped out with books was a little draining.

I am expecting my mojo to return very soon,

as I have some great ideas I want to pursue

(and lots of lost books lined up on top of my

bookshelf with which to pursue said ideas!)

Today's the Day

 

Big Day today.

My exhibition "Ex Libris Olim" opens at 11am.

Am looking forward to having lots of wonderful

people together in the one space but

secretly,

I can't wait for my speech to be over already

'cause I hate being the centre of attention!

Above are some rather average photo's I took

during installation.  We have put up

more signage and moved some stuff around

a little since taking them and it looks

somewhat more improved.

It's all Black and White

The circular form and repetitive folds of this 

piece with its central column and solid base

make me think of a motionless

zoeotrope devoid of 

picture and movement,

its folded form caught in time.

Unidentified Folded Object

 

This little specimen

has been captured and somehow garnered

pride of place positioned in front of the

title wall at the entrance to my exhibition.

Treelogy

 

A little sculpture made by folding pages 

from three old copies of

The Law Book Co Ltd's Australian Digest,

Found gathering dust in a recycle centre.

The paper was lovely, smooth and fine, 

not crumbly in the least.

The utilitarian caramel coloured covers

were not becoming in the least.

Something of Value

 

I have been furiously folding but in between,

I have finished altering this little volume

which was my first foray into altered book art.

When I began altering books, I thought I would

go along the journal style of presentation,

altering/removing pages and text, altering each internal 

page so that the finished object would be 

something very akin to its original format.  

Haven't really stuck to that path at all!

Folded Book Sculptures

 

Here's 

a spoiler on 

a multi-book piece I

have been working on for this 

exhibition.   Am pretty pleased with the 

outcome, but won't show pics of it in it's 

entirety yet, as I want to have

at least one work that I haven't

disclosed before the opening event.

Will post some photo's in a couple of 

weeks after the show is open.

Butterfly Fold

 

This book's a bit like me -

the closer you get, the older it looks!

The Crimson Ramblers 167

 

Another simple fold book:

"The Crimson Ramblers"

Had intentions of folding the entire book,

but got to this illustration and I couldn't

hide it amongst the folds, never to be seen again.

I quite like the proportions of folded v. non-folded

and I think leaving part of the book unfolded adds to the dialogue

by intimating the original construct of the book.

Objects in Mirror

 

The book cover reads:

 "Objects in mirror may be more irrational than they appear"

The book is slanted so a viewer standing directly over

 the work has their reflection appear in the mirror

 embedded in the book as they are reading the text.

The Quiet American

 

A little ex-library book that has seen far better days.

A small and unassuming little venture that is 

definitely hovering in the

"almost interesting but needs a little more attention"

basket.
